Every year 16 th of June, the International Day of African Child is celebrated to keep hold in mind the Rights of children.
Sunday, June 18, 2023, in the Oratorio Scholasticat Don Bosco Kabgayi, the day of the African child was celebrated on the basis of the worldwide theme “The Rights of the Child in The Digital Environment”. They were preceded by a mass celebration offered by MUNYANYINDI Anaclet, the head priest of the scholasticat don bosco kabgayi house.
Attended by the Head Priest of the Selesian home in Kabgayi, the local authorities at the level of the village where the Salesian home is located, the representative of the Itetele family and the members of the Club Children Empowerment Network, the event was specially sponsored by the
POLISH FOUNDATION OF AFRICA together with the University Club of Afrykańsko- Bliskowschodnie Koło Naukowe Joyfully, the priest reminded the attended children to behave like Christians by obeying their parents, and avoiding other bad acts. “You should be polite, avoid being rude, you should study with courage in order to prepare for a better future” The Club Children Empowerment Network was established to fight against all forms of violence against children. Through games and songs, its members have urged children to pay attention to what they watch on social networking sites, in movies, and on the phone, asking them to use technology for learning, and try to fulfil their responsibilities, including respecting their
superiors, helping parents with their work, studying diligently, being clean, taking good care of the equipment of school, clothes and avoid wandering or leaving home without asking permission to avoid violence against them
The event was marked by children’s oratorio dances, poems and drawings focusing on the rights of the child, the responsibilities of the child, child abuse and how to prevent it. There was a meal shared with street children and children from poor families. After the event, all the children who
came to the event were given sweets, biscuits and prizes for those who won the competition organized for the celebration of the African child, including singing, poetry and dancing. theatre and painting.
Club children empowerment network now has on his shoulders 15 children that it provides school supplies and school fees from the contribution of their members. This coming July, the village will send more street children again thanks to the aforementioned donors that have
contributed to decreasing the school dropout rate in our village to build confidence and care for street children.
