The Day of the African Child is celebrated every year on June 16 by the countries ratified to the African Union (AU) charter in order to think more and determine the actions that would solve the problems that African children face in their respective communities. This year, Rwanda joins other African Nations, and members of the African Union to celebrate it. As part of the celebration of the Day, the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) has chosen the theme: “The Rights of the Child in the digital environment”. Approved by the Government of Rwanda, reminds Rwandans that they must continue to respect children’s rights in the digital environment and establish effective measures to protect them from violence both on and off the internet. The Government of Rwanda has established Policies for the protection of the rights of the children (May 2019) from different perspectives and all partners are called to participate actively. Our involvement as a CLUB will continue to be massive in our villages and we will continue to act as the voice of voiceless children.

Since 1991, the Day of the African Child is celebrated by all African Union member states every 16th of June. The date was initiated by the former Organization of African Unity (OAU) current African Union to honor children who participated in the Soweto (South Africa) Uprising in 1976 when about ten thousand black school children protested the poor quality of their education and demanded their right to be taught in their own language.  On that particular day, hundreds of young students were shot.
